Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all keeping well and managing as the weather cools down here in Annandale.

This month, our main article delves into a topic we’re passionate about at Activate: The Synergy of Physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates. We explore how combining hands-on physio with tailored exercise rehab creates a powerful, holistic approach to help you recover more effectively, manage pain, and build lasting strength to keep you doing the activities you love. You can find the full article further down or on our website.

On the studio front, we have some exciting staff news! We are delighted to introduce an experienced Pilates instructor, Sunni, to the Activate Physio. Pilates team. You can read more about Sunni below.

Then we have a quick read on calcium and how it can support our fitness journey. Wishing you all a healthy and happy month ahead!

Warmly,

Your Holistic Path to Recovery and Strength

At Activate Physio. Pilates. Exercise Rehab, we believe combining physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates/Exercise Rehab offers the most powerful path to recovery and lasting strength. This integrated approach addresses both immediate pain and underlying causes, creating a truly holistic plan tailored just for you.

Starting with a physio assessment to diagnose and treat immediate issues, we then use those findings to build your personalised Clinical Pilates or Exercise Rehab program. These guided sessions focus on targeted strengthening, core stability, and improved movement patterns, building resilience from within.

This synergy ensures a seamless transition from pain relief to active rehabilitation. It’s about building a stronger, more resilient body, reducing future injury risk, and empowering you to confidently continue doing what you love.

I’m delighted to introduce an experienced Pilates instructor, Sunanta Thitthong to the Activate Physio. Pilates team. Sunni is a physiotherapist from Thailand with over 4 years of experience in both hospital and private practice settings. Sunni will be working with Susie on Monday nights, and Victoria on Thursday nights. She will also be completing mentoring in physiotherapy treatment with Susie, until her final registration exams for Australia. She is very close to completing this process!

Sunni has special interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and has additional training in Clinical Pilates. She is particularly interested in treating back and shoulder problems and helping patients restore functional movement. As a former runner, she brings a personal understanding of sports-related injuries and recovery, which enhances her holistic approach to patient care.

Please make her feel welcome!

Calcium Counts – Could This Mineral Support Your Fitness Journey?

When we think about fitness and nutrition, macronutrients like protein and carbs usually take centre stage. But minerals like calcium play a quiet, crucial role in helping your body perform at its best—especially if you are active.

Calcium is widely known for supporting strong bones and teeth, but its benefits go far beyond that. It’s essential for muscle contractionnerve transmissionblood clotting, and heart function. For those with an active lifestyle, calcium’s role in muscle function and bone strength is especially important.

Why it matters for fitness:

  • Helps muscles contract effectively.
  • Supports nerve signalling and heart rhythm.
  • Plays a key role in maintaining bone density—important for injury prevention.
  • Works alongside other minerals (like magnesium and potassium) for overall muscle health

Top food sources of calcium:

  • Dairy products (milk, cheese, yoghurt)
  • Leafy greens (collard greens, kale, bok choy)
  • Fortified plant milks and cereals
  • Tofu made with calcium sulphate
  • Sardines or canned salmon with bones
  • Almonds, sesame seeds and chia seeds

Pro Tip: Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, so make sure you’re getting enough of both—either through diet, sunlight, or supplements if needed.

Note: This is for general knowledge, not medical advice. If you’re concerned about your calcium intake, bone health, or muscle function, speak to your GP or a registered dietitian/nutritionist for personalised advice.

Calcium is more than just a bone-builder—it’s a key player in keeping your body strong, steady, and fit for the long haul.
