Real time ultrasound (RTUS) provides us with the unique ability to SEE the function of deep abdominal, pelvic floor and deep lumbar muscles known as the core stabilising muscles and deep hip stabilising muscles. These muscles are often difficult to feel . Specific feedback re assures you of the correct muscle function to support your body.
Deep stabilising muscles are important in providing support to the spine. Back pain with nerve pain in the leg, poor posture, surgery or pregnancy can result in the loss of adequate control in these muscles. The use of RTUS has been shown to help reduce the recurrence of low back pain from 80% to 30%, by assisting in teaching the correct method of core muscle activation.
RTUS biofeedback is provided at Activate Physio. Exercise Rehab. Pilates during initial consultations or in a one on one private session with a physiotherapist. This assessment of abdominal and back muscle function allows us to tailor a very individualised program, specific to your needs.
Please note that we assess pelvic floor muscle function indirectly, with the sound head placed above the pubic bone on the lower tummy, to view of bladder neck movement. Clients having this assessment need to have a drink of about 500ml of fluid at least half an hour before the assessment to have a full bladder, for reliable feedback during the session.
